Kids and puppet theaters are cute but cats and puppet theaters are even cuter! As a parent and grandparent, I am always looking for projects or products to help foster creativity and engage my kids in hands-on play. Building a puppet theater at home was the perfect opportunity to promote both.
Probably the biggest question was where do we start? This sweet little puppet theater was quick and easy to make and provided hours of fun for the whole family.
To create this little gem, we started with one Make-A-Fort Build Kit, just to make the building process a bit easier and less stressful. You can use the leftover cardboard fort boxes in your home, but who wants that hassle! Even the panels are cute with the zany characters!
Next, find some fabric and ribbon for the curtains and back door (optional). You can use what you have at home or purchase a yard or two from the local craft store. Next gather all the supplies you will need to decorate. We used mini lights, poster board and canvas for a sign, bulletin board edging, markers, paper stars, and scissors. The possibilities are endless!
Last but not least, find some puppets. We used some wooden animal faces on a stick that we found at the local craft store and colored them with markers. If you have some puppets around the house, you can obviously use those instead.
Now, this is where the fun begins, creating the structure! The Make-A-Fort Build Kit made assembly quick and we loved the ability to make changes to our design as we went along. We had some fun laughs creating our signs, coloring our puppets and adding all the decorative touches. The curtains were hung using the connector slots and the extra connectors in the kit, so no extra materials were needed!
The final product was this cute little theater that was a blast to create, hours of creative hands-on play and provided lasting memories for the whole family, even the cats!
